Privacy Policy
Texas History is designed to respect your privacy. There is no account to create and no login. Our own code does not collect, store, or sell your personal information, and the app makes no network requests of its own — all historical content ships inside the app and is read from the device. The sections below explain the limited data that is involved.
What stays on your device
Your favorites, quiz and flashcard progress, study streak, recently viewed items, and usage counters are stored locally on your device using iOS's standard preferences storage. We never receive them.
iCloud sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, your favorites and your flashcard study schedule sync between your own devices through Apple's iCloud key-value storage. This data travels between your devices via your personal iCloud account. It is not sent to us, and we cannot read it. You can stop this by disabling iCloud Drive for Texas History in iOS Settings.
Location
If you allow location access, the map uses your device location while you are using the app to center the map and show historical places near you. Your location is processed on-device, is not stored by us, and is never transmitted to our servers. You can decline location access and browse by county, region, or search instead — every feature remains available.
Advertising
Texas History displays ads through Google AdMob to keep the app free. To do this, Google may use a device advertising identifier (IDFA) and related data to serve and measure ads. On first launch we present:
- A consent prompt (Google's User Messaging Platform) where required by your region's privacy laws (e.g. GDPR/EEA, US state privacy laws); and
- Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, where you can allow or decline tracking. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings, and revisit your ad-personalization choices via "Manage privacy choices" in the app's Settings where offered.
Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. You can remove all ads by purchasing the one-time "Remove Ads" option. The map screen never shows ads.
Purchases
The optional one-time "Remove Ads" purchase is processed by Apple through StoreKit. We do not see or store your payment information.
Affiliate links
Some book and gear links open Amazon with our affiliate tag (defnota-20). If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon's privacy policy governs your activity on Amazon.
Notifications, Spotlight, and spoken text
Optional study reminders are scheduled locally on your device; no reminder content leaves the device. Content you view may be indexed in iOS Spotlight so you can search it from your Home Screen — that index is local to your device. Read-aloud uses Apple's on-device speech synthesis.
Children
Texas History is a general-audience educational reference app. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.

Terms & Educational Disclaimer
Texas History is an educational reference tool. Its historical summaries, biographies, timelines, county records, park entries, and quiz material are provided for general informational and educational purposes only.
- Not an academic or legal authority. History is interpreted and revised over time, and our summaries are condensed. Verify against primary sources and peer-reviewed scholarship before relying on anything here for academic, legal, journalistic, or genealogical purposes.
- Verify before you visit. Park hours, fees, closures, access roads, and site conditions change frequently. Confirm directly with the National Park Service, Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, the U.S. Forest Service, or the relevant local authority before traveling. Coordinates are approximate and are for orientation, not navigation.
- Respect sites and private property. Many historical places are on private land or are culturally sensitive. Listing a place is not permission to enter it. Follow posted rules and applicable law.
- Indigenous history. We present Indigenous nations, people, and places with care, but naming conventions, territories, and histories are contested and evolving. We welcome corrections from the communities represented.
- Texas History and Definitely Not A LLC are provided "as is," without warranties, and are not liable for any loss or injury arising from use of the app.
